Key skills for a project manager are planning, organization, and communication. Starting out with a small project will give a person the opportunity to build these skills. Planning: Taking the goals, objectives, and strategy and being identify the tasks necessary to produce the results expected takes the ability to plan. Identify the stakeholders who are involved in accepting the outcomes. Develop and manage teams with the right backgrounds and skills to gain the results desired. Organization: Controlling and managing how and when individual tasks are completed requires managing the people responsible for completing the task. Helping your staff to prioritize and organize their portion of the project may be necessary. Define your organization. Communication: Gathering the information from the stakeholders to ensure your end product will meet their needs in order to get the results desired. Not defining and clarifying the goals in the beginning will ensure failure. Communication between all participants in a project are necessary to manage the scope and meet the final goals. Problem solving skills: Being able to identify and propose solutions to problems as they present themselves is important. Being able to make decisions is important. Being timely in making those decisions will help prevent the project from failing. |
