Positive results become a good return on investment of time, money, and energy. Staying within the scope of the project requires balance in managing people, time, and money. This tutorial covers the fundamentals, important concepts and skills needed, and the five phases of project management. Project manager (PM) is with the project from start to finish. PM sets requirements and specifications, assembles the team, and manages the people, the schedule, and the budget. A successful project manager has vision to see the whole project from start to finish. A project is temporary. When creating a project, using a holistic systems approach involves the whole customer. Systems approach takes into consideration the organization, business and technology and relates all of the parts to the mission of the customer. Each phase of the project life cycle is a product with product life cycle phases: Initiating, Planning, Executing, Controlling, and closing. Some of the product life cycles extend and overlap into the next phase of the project life cycle. This smooth integration of phases helps to bring forward a finished product and project which is integrated with the overall mission of the customers' organization. |
